미원체 (Miwon) specimen from LeedoType

A free Hangul display typeface commissioned by Daesang Corporation, drawing directly from the sixty-year-old Miwon brand logo to produce a bold, expressive brush style suited to large-scale headlines.

About

Released in October 2022, the typeface was planned and art-directed by advertising production studio StudioK110, with font design and engineering handled by LeedoType. Its thick, brushstroke-derived letterforms begin from a classical sensibility rooted in the long history of the Miwon brand, while the underlying glyph structure is adapted for contemporary use. The font supports 2,782 Hangul glyphs, exceeding the standard KS X 1001 set of 2,350, enabling correct rendering of loanword syllables outside that specification.

Classification

A bold, expressive brush-style Hangul typeface derived from the Miwon brand logo, designed for large-scale headline use. Its thick, calligraphic strokes and high visual impact place it firmly in the display category with a brush subcategory.
