Hernandez Niu
Latinotype · Daniel Hernández, César Araya · 2016

A six-weight display slab serif with functional ink-traps and true italics, developed from the original Hernández Bold and extended to cover 212 languages across 397 characters.
About
Designed by César Araya and Daniel Hernández, Hernandez Niu reworks the thickest weight of Hernández Bold to perform better at small text sizes while adding five new styles ranging from neutral to expressive. Thickened serifs, detailed counter-forms and true italics make it suitable for both large-scale display use and hierarchical typesetting in publishing and branding. The 'Niu' naming convention reflects Latinotype's practice of adapting the concept of 'new' through Latin American linguistic and cultural identity.
Classification
A display slab serif with thickened serifs and functional ink-traps, designed for large sizes but adaptable to small text. Its expressive character and true italics place it firmly in the display slab tradition.
