The heavy grotesque every Soviet headline was set in, rebuilt as a single modern titling black.
About
Rublena descends from a Danzig type of the 1870s that spread worldwide under names like Zeitungs-Grotesque and Fette Steinschrift, then survived the Soviet type cull of the 1920s to become ubiquitous. Anfalov drew on metal, phototype, painted posters and even a cartoon rather than any single source, reducing the model to a clean titling face for digital use.
Classification
A free reduction of the nineteenth-century Zeitungs-Grotesque / Breite fette Grotesk lineage, the standard heavy grotesque of Soviet printing. A single Black weight meant for headlines against text.
