Litteratra specimen from Karsten Lücke

A bastarda text face, named for the Latin littera atra, or dark letter, that won a TDC competition in 2001.

About

Litteratra combines fraktur's darkness with roman construction, using italic lowercase alongside roman uppercase in a nod to early italic printing conventions. It was among the first Latin OpenType fonts to lean heavily on contextual positioning, and packs small caps, spaced and titling uppercase, multiple figure sets and ligatures into what Lücke calls a family in one font.

Classification

A bastarda style that fuses fraktur and roman letter construction into a dark, dense text colour, with italic lowercase set against roman uppercase.
