Monterey Pop specimen from K-Type

A revival of Tom Wilkes's hand lettering from the 1967 Monterey International Pop Festival poster, offered in Regular, Outline and Thinline cuts for bicolour layering effects.

About

Based directly on the lettering created for the Monterey Pop Festival in June 1967, the typeface captures the rounded, optimistic character of late-1960s Californian psychedelic design. A newly drawn lowercase and full Latin Extended-A character set extend its usability beyond the original caps-only source. The three variants – Regular, Outline and Thinline – are matched in spacing and kerning so they can be layered for two-colour headline treatments.

Classification

A hand-lettering revival in the psychedelic poster tradition, drawn from Tom Wilkes's 1967 Monterey Pop Festival lettering. The rounded, decorative forms and outline variants place it firmly in the display category.
