J Yogoe Heukgap Baekgap, a playful Korean display face that turns a pair of folklore spirit soldiers into geometric letterforms.
About
One of three fonts in Jikji Soft's Yogoe (monster) project, each built on a little-known creature from the Korean Monster Encyclopedia, drawn by Song Munui and Lee Ga-hee. Letters are pared back to circles, squares and triangles on a free, non-square frame, with oversized initial consonants and bean-shaped counters that a variable axis moves about, as if the black- and white-armoured soldiers were fighting inside the glyphs. It covers all 11,172 Hangul syllables and 332 Latin characters, adds ten dingbats and is licensed through the JikjiTYPE subscription.
Classification
A highly stylised, non-rectangular (탈네모꼴) Korean display typeface with geometric character construction derived from circles, squares and triangles. Its narrative-driven dingbats and variable font features place it firmly in the display/decorative category.
