WT Morris Roman takes Morris's Golden type as its starting point, a face itself rooted in fifteenth-century Jenson cuts but reworked with heavier, more uniform strokes for fine bookmaking at the Kelmscott Press. The designer's stated aim was to preserve what is productively odd about the original whilst correcting the proportions that make the historical source impractical for modern use. OpenType features include contextual alternates, discretionary ligatures, small caps and old-style numerals.
Classification
Based on William Morris's Golden type, itself derived from early Jenson cuts, this is a Venetian or proto-roman revival with thick, relatively uniform strokes and the idiosyncratic letterforms characteristic of Morris's Kelmscott Press work.
