Diesel Rudolf Script
IngoFonts · 2008

A digitisation of Rudolf Diesel's personal handwriting, developed for the 150th anniversary of his birth in 2008 and drawn from original surviving letters.
About
The typeface reproduces the irregular, mixed letterforms of Diesel's script, which blended French cursive with German Kurrent influences acquired during his itinerant education. Over 80 ligatures and alternate letterforms, accessible via OpenType Liga and Dlig features, replicate the natural variation found within individual words in the original manuscripts. The result reflects Diesel's apparent indifference to neat penmanship, with letters shifting between broad and narrow, large and compressed.
Classification
A digitised script based on the personal handwriting of Rudolf Diesel, combining French cursive and German script traditions. The irregular, mixed letterforms are characteristic of a handwriting revival rather than a formal calligraphic script.
