About
The design originated with the first Deutsche Mark banknotes, produced under time pressure by a US specialty printer whose engravers gave the lettering a distinctly American flavour. Peculiarities such as near-serif terminals on C, G, S, Z, L and T are preserved intact. Without lowercase letters, it is intended purely as a display face for posters and headlines, and is said to tolerate distortion without losing its essential character.
