displayArt Déco display
Anatole France specimen from IngoFonts

A variable display typeface revived from a 1920s–30s German specimen book, combining Art Déco geometric construction with the warmth of a hand-held brush.

About

Based on a handwritten poster script from a Georg D. W. Callwey Verlag specimen folder, the design builds letterforms from a small set of recurring basic elements – an approach that might have yielded a rigid geometric typeface, but the brush-drawn ductus softens the structure pleasantly. Five named weights from Light to Bold are available as a variable font spanning weights 300 to 700. OpenType style sets offer alternate forms for selected characters including O, Q, V, v and w.

Classification

A decorative display typeface in the Art Déco manner, combining brush-written character with a strict geometric construction of repeating basic elements. Its emphasis on thick strokes and handwritten brush ductus places it clearly in the display/decorative category.
