Prachar specimen from Indian Type Foundry

An all-caps, slanted display face modelled on hand-painted shop signage, with visible stroke contrast, rough edges and deliberate ink-bleed effects within certain letterforms.

About

Prachar takes its name from the Hindi word for publicity and draws its visual language from sign-painters' brushwork. Each glyph carries rough, uneven edges and selected letters – B, C, M and Q among them – allow the background to show through, mimicking the worn quality of hand-applied paint. Although set entirely in capitals, alternative lowercase glyph slots carry distinct letterform variants, and the family covers a broad range of European Latin languages.

Classification

An all-caps slanted script face with visible stroke contrast, rough edges and sign-painting aesthetics. Classified as display due to its decorative, large-size intent and informal hand-painted character rather than running-text legibility.
