A free, open-source antique slab serif that modernises the Clarendon model with native italics, a fatface weight, and three widths across 36 styles.
About
Drawing from Robert Besley's Clarendon, this design addresses the original's shortcomings: limited weight range, no true italic, and letterforms optimised for metal type rather than screen. A larger x-height improves text-size legibility, wide capitals balance the sturdy stroke contrast, and italics were integrated from the outset rather than retrofitted. Version 3.0 adds Cyrillic support alongside Narrow and Condensed variants.
Classification
An antique slab serif in the Clarendon tradition, featuring sturdy bracketed serifs with traditional stroke width contrast. The design updates and extends the Clarendon model with native italics, expanded weights including a fatface, and multiple widths.
