A hybrid sans-serif of 22 styles spanning Hairline to Ultra, blending grotesque and geometric conventions via OpenType stylistic sets that switch between the two registers.
About
Originally conceived by Hugo Le Corre and extended to version 2.0 with matching italics and new weights, Metra is defined by a large x-height, a distinctive flared capital M and letter and numeral alternates tied to its two stylistic sets. The character set reaches beyond standard Latin to cover Vietnamese and several African languages including Hausa, Igbo and Lingála, following Christoph Koeberlin's work on extended Latin coverage. A variable font spanning weight and slant axes accompanies the 22 static styles.
Classification
Metra deliberately merges grotesque and geometric sans-serif conventions into a single design, with OpenType stylistic sets allowing users to toggle between the two archetypes. The large x-height, flared capital M and alternate letterforms place it between the two traditions rather than firmly in either.
