Tool Serif & Sans specimen from FOLCH

A paired serif and sans-serif superfamily grown from Folch Studio's own need for a flexible in-house type system, each family offered in five weights and designed to work independently or together.

About

Tool was built to solve a real problem: Folch Studio needed a single typeface system that could handle everything across the studio without compromise. The answer was two complementary families – Tool Serif and Tool Sans – each in five weights, deployable separately or in combination. The families are described as non-identical twins: related in spirit but distinct in character, which is what gives the system its range.

Classification

A paired serif and sans-serif superfamily, each sub-family available in five weights (20 styles in total, likely roman plus italic per weight). Designed originally as an in-house studio system before release as retail. The serif anchors the family; exact stylistic classification (humanist, transitional) cannot be confirmed from public materials alone, but the stated design purpose – maximum versatility across every studio use-case – points toward a text-oriented, moderate-contrast serif with a corresponding neutral grotesk companion.
