A condensed sans-serif from 2002, designed as a personal Verdana replacement optimised for screen rendering at small sizes, later adopted by Nintendo and Fox's NFL scoreboard.
About
Created by Fabrizio Schiavi in 2002 out of frustration with aliased Verdana rendering in early web browsers, Sys targets legibility at low point sizes while retaining enough character to perform at display sizes. Its TrueType version is hand-hinted for screen use, and Cyrillic support was later added by Evgeny Laskovy in Regular and Bold weights. It was used on the Nintendo GameBoy Advance and in Fox NFL broadcast graphics, both small, low-resolution settings.
Classification
A condensed sans-serif designed for legibility at small sizes, drawing comparison to Verdana as a screen-optimised alternative with rounded terminations and pixel-perfect hinting.
