Gelada

A bespoke typeface for Zé Delivery's app identity, rooted in Brazilian xilogravura woodblock printing tradition, with irregular strokes, broken counter-forms and both forward and reverse italics.
About
Drawn in collaboration with FutureBrand, Gelada channels the aesthetic of hand-carved woodblock printing — a popular vernacular printing technique with deep roots in Brazilian graphic culture. Irregular straight strokes and breaks in the counter-forms reference the physical imperfections of the artisanal process, while a high waist on the uppercase letters anchors the design in street typography. The family includes reverse italics alongside conventional ones, and a secondary variant with refined spacing and adjusted letterforms for legibility at small digital sizes.
Classification
