About
Pyk converts Helmut Salden's flowing italic hand into upright letterforms, retaining the single-stroke rhythm of cursive construction while introducing structural balance. The approach required careful resolution of symmetrical characters such as the 'o', 'e' and 's', which were redrawn with an asymmetric triangular rhythm to harmonise with the upright italic skeleton. The typeface won a TDC award and has been featured in AIGA's Eye on Design and Femme Type.
