Designed at a moment when Emigre was pushing the boundaries of type system design, Cholla organises a shared skeleton into four distinct subfamilies: Sans, Slab, Wide and Unicase. The Sans and Wide cuts share a humanist sensibility with organic stroke variation, while the Slab branch introduces bracketed serifs to the same underlying structure. The Unicase variant, mixing upper and lowercase letterforms at a uniform height, reflects the experimental spirit characteristic of late-1990s Emigre output.
