Blockhead Alphabet specimen from Emigre

A 1995 novelty display family from John Hersey comprising four stylistic variants built around bold, blocky letterforms with an illustrative sensibility.

About

Released through Emigre in 1995, the family offers four distinct cuts – Plain, Dark Side, Black Face and Unplugged – each applying a different decorative treatment to the same underlying block structure. The typeface sits firmly in the experimental, hand-crafted tradition that defined much of Emigre's output during the 1990s. Its companion set, Blockhead Illustrations, extends the system beyond alphabetic characters.
