Built on even stroke weights and simple geometric forms, Algol sits in a tradition of display lettering that appeared across science-fiction book covers and pocket paperbacks of the 1970s. Its angular glyphs create a strong graphic presence, with certain characters designed to stand out within otherwise consistent modular construction. The name pays tribute to the science-fiction fanzine launched by Andrew Ian Silverberg in New York City in 1963.
