Thow
Duong Tran · Dương Trần · 2024

A transitional text serif rooted in Vietnamese newspaper heritage, with six weights and full Vietnamese diacritic support.
About
Thow draws its proportions and mood from the typefaces used in Đông Dương Tạp Chí (1913–1919), Vietnam's early print culture, while staying close to the transitional conventions of Baskerville and Times New Roman. Generous x-heights and open terminals keep it readable at text sizes. Vietnamese diacritics are stacked to the right of the circumflex – a deliberate solution to the complex mark combinations the language requires.
Classification
A transitional serif referencing Baskerville and Times New Roman, filtered through the aesthetic of the Đông Dương Tạp Chí newspaper (1913–1919). Generous x-heights and open terminals update what is otherwise a historically grounded structure. The handling of Vietnamese diacritics – stacked to the right of the circumflex – reflects a considered approach to the language's dense mark combinations.
