Lock Sans
CoType Foundry · Mark Bloom, Diana Ovezea · 2024

A humanist sans-serif by Mark Bloom and Diana Ovezea drawing on broad-nib calligraphy for natural stroke variation, offered in six weights with a matching stencil companion and variable font.
About
Lock Sans is the sans-serif arm of CoType's debut superfamily, its letterforms shaped by broad-nib calligraphy in a way that reads as warmth rather than ornament. Six weights from ExtraLight to Black cover the full range of editorial and branding use, and the variable font is included with purchase. A stencil companion swaps in without triggering text reflow, and glyph alternates for a, g, t and Q give extra typographic range.
Classification
Humanist sans-serif with calligraphic underpinning – strokes carry the subtle variation of a broad-nib pen without being overtly calligraphic. Part of CoType's Lock superfamily (Lock Sans, Lock Sans Stencil, Lock Serif, Lock Serif Stencil), developed over two years. Six-weight range from ExtraLight to Black; variable font included. Stencil companion designed for seamless interchange without text reflow. Glyph alternates for a, g, t and Q; includes arrows and circled numbers.
