A loosely interpreted typewriter face drawn by Christian Schwartz during 2020 parental leave, based on a low-resolution scan of an IBM Selectric alphabet originally designed by Howard Kettler.
About
The source material – a blurry scan of Kettler's Advocate Selectric typeface – led Schwartz deliberately away from faithful revival, producing something rougher and more characterful than a clean reconstruction would allow. It sits in Commercial Type's Vault alongside other unreleased or archival projects, with the caveat that character sets may be limited. Richard Turley has put it to use in small publications for Civilization.
Classification
Modelled on an IBM Selectric typewriter typeface, Advocate, with fixed-pitch spacing and letterforms characteristic of typewriter faces. The source material is a monospaced alphabet designed by Howard Kettler, placing this firmly in the typewriter/mono tradition.
