A joined cursive typeface developed in collaboration with Castledown Primary School in Hastings, designed to align with how handwriting is taught to children in UK schools.
About
Developed between 2012 and 2014, the typeface grew from a school commission into a broader initiative to bring typographic coherence to primary education. Letterform differentiation – particularly between easily confused characters like lowercase 'l' and uppercase 'I' – was built into the design from the outset alongside readability requirements. The family received a nomination for Design of the Year 2014 at the Design Museum and a Premier Award at the International Society of Typographic Designers.
Classification
A joined cursive script designed to model handwriting instruction in primary schools, with letterforms based on how writing is taught rather than calligraphic tradition.
