Reviving Type specimen from Céline Hurka Type Foundry

A 158-page design-research book co-authored by Céline Hurka and Nóra Békés, charting the revival process of Renaissance and Baroque typefaces from archival source to finished font.

About

The volume weaves together two independent studies: one tracing the Renaissance letterforms of Garamont and Granjon, the other examining the Baroque types of Nicholas Kis. Archival imagery and technical illustrations accompany detailed accounts of historical investigation, design decisions and production methodology. Presented at ATypI Tokyo in 2019, the book was self-published in a limited edition of 800 copies via Acute Publishing, with a foreword by Frank E. Blokland.

Classification

The publication covers Renaissance and Baroque type revival, specifically Garamont, Granjon and Nicholas Kis — all humanist and transitional serif traditions. No standalone typeface is offered; the entry concerns a design-research publication about serif revival methods.
