Lilian specimen from Céline Hurka Type Foundry

A display serif with 535 glyphs and a suite of ornaments and ornamented initials drawn from the crown moulding of a childhood home in Munich, developed over four years by Céline Hurka.

About

Lilian is a personal project rooted in place and memory, its stylistic sets of ornaments and ornamented initials derived directly from architectural detailing in Munich. The typeface was developed between 2020 and 2024 with assistance from Huw Williams. At present it offers a single weight with a substantial glyph set suited to decorative and editorial contexts.

Classification

The presence of ornaments, ornamented initials and decorative motifs drawn from architectural crown moulding places this firmly in the display serif tradition, designed for expressive, large-scale use rather than extended text setting.
