Letters specimen from Céline Hurka Type Foundry

A free, open-source display typeface of 44 hollow letterforms built from vectors that simulate the torn edges of paper ribbons and ornamental printed matter.

About

Designed by Céline Hurka and Jules Janssen in 2024, Letters consists of a single 'Torn' style in which each character is rendered as an empty form defined by ragged, paper-like contours rather than conventional strokes. The project stems from a curiosity about how the material texture of torn paper can be translated into vector geometry, only to be returned to print. It was exhibited at Office Festival, Editions Biceps, Marseille in 2024, and is available at no cost under an open-source licence.

Classification

A single-style display typeface with a torn-paper aesthetic rendered in vectors. The construction is entirely decorative, with hollow letterforms defined by irregular, torn edges rather than conventional stroke contrast or typographic structure.
