Carmen is Regular specimen from Céline Hurka Type Foundry

A bold, rule-defying display typeface by Céline Hurka, grown from iPad drawings made for a low-budget publication and expanded to 675 glyphs with 205 on-demand ligatures.

About

Originally drawn for a collaborative commission with filmmaker and designer Carmen Dusmet Carrasco, the typeface embraces inconsistency and intuition as deliberate design principles rather than flaws to be corrected. Its extensive ligature system is treated as an ongoing, open-ended project: purchasers may request custom ligatures that are drawn and added to the font over time. Released publicly on its namesake's birthday in 2025, having first appeared in a pre-release on Solitype in 2021.

Classification

A bold display typeface built from intuitive, rule-breaking shapes originating in iPad drawings. Its deliberately inconsistent letterforms and extensive ligature system place it firmly in the expressive display category rather than any classical genre.
