Big Caslon CC specimen from Carter & Cone

Matthew Carter's revival of the three largest and most eccentric display sizes cut by the Caslon foundry, available in three weights with companion italics.

About

William Caslon's text types have been widely revived, but the largest sizes from his foundry – forceful and somewhat unconventional in character – remained untouched until Carter & Cone addressed them here. Six styles span Regular, Bold and Black with matching italics, covering a broad range of European Latin languages. The family extends the original display cuts into contexts their eighteenth-century origins could not have anticipated.

Classification

A revival of the largest display sizes cut by the Caslon foundry, which differ markedly from Caslon's text types in their forcefulness and eccentricity. The design sits firmly in the Old Style tradition but is calibrated for display use, with pronounced contrast and idiosyncratic details suited to large-scale setting.
