Tumba specimen from Canada Type

Jamie Chang's hybrid of uncial and blackletter traditions, developed over several years across multiple cities and design programmes.

About

Tumba draws on the uncial and blackletter traditions, reinterpreting both through a contemporary graphic sensibility. The typeface was developed incrementally across Jamie Chang's undergraduate studies at York University, a Type@Cooper programme, time at Canada Type and a UK font studio, and his TypeMedia Master's at the KABK in The Hague. The result carries a distinct personal history, reflecting each stage of the designer's formal and practical training.
