Symposium Pro takes its formal inspiration from the scriptoria of 12th-century Spain, where the exchange between Christian, Muslim and Jewish scribal traditions gave rise to new calligraphic styles. Bouwsma's design reflects the spread of Arabic and Hebrew calligraphic elements into European book hands of that period. The family spans four weights and accommodates both plain setting and elaborate flourished composition.
