Raffia Initials
Canada Type · Henk Krijger

A digital revival of Henk Krijger's Raffia Initialen (Lettergieterij Amsterdam, 1952), whose stroke forms evoke raffia fibre and broad-nib hand movements.
About
The original Raffia Initialen were designed by Henk Krijger and released by Lettergieterij Amsterdam in 1952, later distributed in North America via Amsterdam Continental Types and through VGC on typositor film. The master drawings were rediscovered in 2001 by Henk Gianotten and are now held in the Special Collections of the Universiteitsbibliotheek of the University of Amsterdam. The letterforms draw on natural broad-nib gestures and carry references to late medieval, manneristic and baroque cadels.
