Miedinger takes its name and its point of departure from the designer of Helvetica, situating itself firmly within the Swiss neo-grotesque tradition. The font emerged from Canada Type's engagement with Helvetica's anniversary in 2007 and the long-running debates around that typeface's legacy and influence. It reflects the studio's own reading of the genre rather than a direct copy of any single historical source.
