Lorenzo draws on the formal calligraphic hands of the late medieval and early Renaissance periods, taking as its conceptual starting point the era of Lorenzo de Medici when metal type displaced hand-lettering in book production. The design seeks to restore the vitality of calligraphic construction to letterforms that were, in the designer's view, stripped of life when metalworkers recast them through geometric measurement. The result is a script that sits between formal penmanship and typographic order.
