Leo was designed for sustained reading in magazine and book settings, with distinct cuts tuned to different size ranges including smaller applications such as footnotes and legal text. The roman uses wedge serifs and a skeleton loosely informed by post-war Dutch type design, kept deliberately free of ornamentation. Rather than follow the convention of condensed widths and steep slants, the italics take a more naturalistic approach.
