Gala is based on Neon, which was released by Nebiolo in 1935 and gained immediate international recognition as one of the earliest modular unicase typefaces. The original came in two weights along with a shadow version and a modular components set; Canada Type has corrected and greatly expanded all of this material. Its minimal, geometric construction is widely cited as a direct ancestor of countless techno typefaces.
