Bouwsma Text applies the logic of broad-pen calligraphy to both the Roman capitals and the lower case, producing tapered stems, graduated curves and serifs that follow the pen's entry and exit angles. Serif size decreases as stroke weight increases, maintaining an optical balance across the alphabet. The lower case draws on a historical thread running from uncial and half-uncial through Carolingian bookhand to modern text use.
