Quokka
Cake Type · Pieter van Rosmalen · 2022

A bitmap-derived display typeface in three styles — Regular, Glitch Right and Glitch Left — created by layering pixel letterforms in Photoshop and softening the results with rounded corners.
About
Originally developed through a process of duplicating and layering the same bitmap letters in Adobe Photoshop, with multiplication, transparency and layer sequencing shaping the final forms. Rounded corners were added during a custom typeface proposal that was shelved, before the design was retrieved and released through CakeType. Three styles cover Latin Extended and Cyrillic scripts.
Classification
Letterforms constructed by duplicating and layering bitmap letters in Photoshop, with rounded corners applied to the bitmap shapes. The glitch variants introduce directional offset effects, placing this firmly in the display/experimental category.
