Omslag specimen from Brutal Types

A revival of Anton Kurvers's early 20th-century Amsterdam School lettering, adapted by Ramiro Espinoza for typographic use with refined proportions and enhanced consistency.

About

Drawn from lettering that Kurvers designed for covers published by the progressive Dutch house N.V. Uitgevers-Maatschappij, the typeface carries the weighty, architecturally inflected character associated with the Amsterdam School. Its proportions echo those seen on Amsterdam bridge signage, work that may also be attributable to Kurvers. The single style suits posters, book covers, museum catalogues and festival campaigns.

Classification

Based on hand-lettering from the Amsterdam School tradition, Omslag has a distinctive expressionist character with architectural proportions rooted in early 20th-century Dutch design. Its origins in hand-drawn book cover lettering place it firmly in the display category.
