Minibieb specimen from Brutal Types

A compressed calligraphic typeface by Ramiro Espinoza, derived from Theo Kurpershoek's hand lettering on the 1961 Querido edition of a Dutch novel.

About

Espinoza analysed the narrow, hand-drawn letterforms of Kurpershoek's dust jacket lettering and translated them into a regularised digital typeface, correcting inconsistencies and expanding the character set without losing the source's informal character. The single style suits book covers, posters, packaging and cultural projects that call for a compact, expressive voice rooted in mid-century Dutch graphic design.

Classification

A compressed, calligraphic display typeface derived from mid-century Dutch hand lettering. Its narrow proportions and informal, hand-drawn quality place it firmly in the display category with a calligraphic subcategory.
