Midwestern specimen from Brutal Types

A modular display typeface adapted from Jochem Ruijgrok's 2018 façade lettering for the Midwest community centre in Amsterdam, expanded into a full character set by Ramiro Espinoza.

About

The original letters were carved into the façade of a 1924 building designed by the Amsterdam Municipal Office of Public Works, reflecting the Amsterdam School's geometric sensibility. Espinoza's typographic interpretation preserves the compact rhythm and sturdy modular logic of the source lettering while extending the character set for practical use. The result suits posters, signage and visual identity work where a bold, architectural tone is needed.

Classification

A modular, blockish display typeface derived from architectural façade lettering, with a geometric and carved quality rooted in Amsterdam School influences. Its compact rhythm and sturdy construction place it firmly in the geometric display category.
