Brutal Types · Ramiro Espinoza · 2025

A single-style display typeface by Ramiro Espinoza, drawn from Chris Lebeau's early twentieth-century woodcut lettering for a Dutch art supply store.
About
The design reinterprets the modular, expressive letterforms found in a woodcut by Dutch artist and activist Chris Lebeau (1878–1945), originally made to advertise the Willem Brok store in Hilversum. Espinoza refined the proportions and expanded the character set while retaining the tactile, hand-cut quality of the source material. The result suits posters, logos, museum graphics and editorial contexts where a historically grounded Dutch character is required.
Classification
