Emmahuis specimen from Brutal Types

A single-weight expanded geometric sans by Ramiro Espinoza, derived from the original architectural lettering of the Emmahuis building on Rotterdam's Schiekade, completed in 1932.

About

Espinoza studied the original inscription's modular construction and geometric forms to produce a typeface that retains the sober clarity of Dutch modernist lettering whilst functioning as a contemporary digital font. Its wide proportions and structured letterforms make it well suited to headlines, signage and branding contexts. The design connects to a specific building and moment in Rotterdam's architectural history rather than a generalised period style.

Classification

An expanded, modular geometric sans drawn from architectural lettering of the late 1920s Dutch modernist tradition. Its geometric forms and modular construction place it firmly within the geometric sans category, with a notably wide, display-oriented proportion.
