DeUnie specimen from Brutal Types

A three-weight display family by Ramiro Espinoza, drawn from the geometric façade lettering J. J. P. Oud designed for Café De Unie in Rotterdam in 1925.

About

Espinoza studied the modular proportions of Oud's original De Stijl alphabet and translated them into a contemporary digital family across three weights, preserving the architectural logic while extending typographic flexibility. The letterforms support vertical setting, consistent with the original façade application. Suited to branding, posters, signage and cultural projects that require a clear, rationalist typographic register.

Classification

A geometric display family derived from the modular, grid-based letterforms of De Stijl architecture. Its rational, rectilinear construction and architectural origins place it firmly in the display category with a geometric subcategory.
