Designed by Paula Mastrangelo and Ramiro Espinoza, Aktie draws on lettering by Dutch designer Anton Kurvers (1889–1940), originally produced for the architecture book series Moderneschoonheid published by Kosmos Uitgevers between 1931 and 1933. The designers refined the source geometry, regularised spacing and expanded the character set rather than producing a strict facsimile, preserving the light, Deco-inflected character of the original. It is the fifth release in Brutal Types' Kurvers' Font Collection, following Kurversbrug, Omslag, Antonius and Misiva.
Classification
A display typeface rooted in early twentieth-century Dutch Art Deco lettering, with geometric construction, careful proportioning and unconventional letterforms characteristic of interwar modernism. Its single-style offering and source material place it squarely in the display category rather than a functional text classification.
