Night specimen from Bonez Designz

A geometric sans-serif by Fie Clarke with a built-in Braille weight system, allowing designers to switch between Latin text and Braille representation without prior knowledge of the script.

About

Released in April 2018, Night pairs conventional Light, Regular and Bold Latin weights with equivalent Dots and Braille styles, covering Latin, Greek, Cyrillic and Braille scripts across nine styles. The design was conceived as an accessibility tool, letting type be set in standard weights and then converted to Braille by changing the weight, though embossing remains necessary for tactile use. Fifty per cent of profits are donated to the RNIB, and the typeface has been featured in the Yearbook of Type 2019/20 and Typodarium 2019 and 2020.

Classification

Night is a geometric sans-serif family whose principal distinction is its parallel Braille weight system, allowing designers to switch between Latin text and Braille representation within the same typeface. The Latin styles are clean and modular, consistent with geometric sans conventions.
