A single-weight display serif that merges classical Roman uppercase letterforms with monospaced lowercase characters inspired by Sumerian cuneiform, resulting in a distinctly modular dual-system typeface.
About
Designed by Andres Briganti and released in November 2022, Curia treats its two cases as separate but complementary systems: the uppercase follows traditional proportional serif conventions while the lowercase adheres to a strict monospaced grid derived from cuneiform geometry. Stylistic sets offer squared-out alternates, extended ligatures and modified numerals, giving the typeface flexibility across decorative applications. At 244 glyphs it covers Latin extended characters including diacritics for a broad range of Western European languages.
Classification
A modular serif with a split personality: monospaced lowercase drawn from Sumerian cuneiform geometry, and more traditionally proportioned uppercase rooted in classical Roman capitals. The hybrid logic and decorative quirk place it firmly in the display category.
