Brush specimen from ATF Collection

An expanded revival of Robert E. Smith's 1942 Brush Script, extended to five weights with swash alternates, ligatures and underline tails for a more versatile workhorse than the original single-weight release.

About

Originally a single-weight staple of mid-century commercial lettering, the ATF revival adds Light through Black weights while preserving the loose, hand-lettered energy that made the original ubiquitous across signage, packaging and trade ephemera. Swash alternates and lively ligatures give designers room to vary rhythm and tone, while cleaner curves and smoother connections tighten the technical execution without sanding away its character. It sits naturally in branding, posters and advertising contexts where a warm, unpretentious informality is needed.

Classification

A casual brush script with swash alternates, ligatures and underline tails. The informal, hand-lettered character and brush-stroke construction place it firmly in the brush script subcategory.
