sans-serifgrotesqueitalic
Citizen Grotesk specimen from Altiplano

A neo-grotesque drawing on the Swiss International Style that positions itself as a critical rethinking of neutrality for the twenty-first century, available in eight weights with obliques and a variable font file.

About

Citizen Grotesk takes the methodical rigour of mid-century Swiss typography as its starting point, then questions the fantasy of universal neutrality that tradition claimed. Eight static weights and their oblique counterparts are complemented by a variable font file, included with purchase of the full family. The accompanying editorial framing, referencing relational design theory and pluriversal thinking, signals an intent to push the genre beyond its modernist neutrality myth.

Classification

A neo-grotesque in the tradition of mid-twentieth-century Swiss International Style typography, with the clean, rational forms characteristic of that movement and an oblique rather than true italic.
