New Phase takes a classical serif skeleton and rebuilds each character from columns of vertical stripes at varying heights – a construction that reads as graphic pattern at distance and letterform up close. The effect suits posters, covers and campaign headlines, where the optical movement the striping generates becomes part of the composition. At text sizes the concept collapses; this is a typeface designed to be seen large.
